Symptoms of Dyslexia
Adult
While
many adults live productive lives with difficulties brought about by
dyslexia, either by choosing a career that limits their reliance on the
written language, by becoming an "good enough" reader, or by
using technology to mask their deficits; in the end they feel like they
are hiding their weaknesses from everyone else and live in fear of their
dyslexia begin uncovered, especially at work.
What
to look for:

A
history of reading difficulties during school.

Difficulty
completing tasks on time that deal with writing or mathematics.

Work
and life must be heavily organized to keep on track.

Fear
of public speaking because of poor reading skills, or must be very familiar
with text prior to reading out loud.

Difficulty
with remembering the order of tasks to be completed.

Continued
difficulty spelling words with multiple syllables, often omitting
entire syllables as well as making single sound errors.

Frequent
misreading of common sight words (where, there, what, then, when,
etc.)

Difficulties
with reading comprehension and learning new information from
text.

If
underlying oral language problems exist affecting vocabulary
knowledge and grammar, difficulties in comprehension of text will
occur.

Difficulties in writing related to problems in spelling, as well as
organizing ideas
