Clinical Reading & Cognitive Therapy Program

History and Studies

Jett PHORCE Program History

The Jett PHORCE program was created in 1997 by Dr. Elaine Jett. Dr. Jett's credentials include a Ph.D in Early Childhood Education from the University of Illinois, author of reading curriculums used nationally for Sylvan Learning Centers, and, of course, the development of the Jett PHORCE program for Dyslexia.

The Jett PHORCE program has been receiving ongoing updates since its creation in 1997 and is now used by numerous independent and franchised clinics throughout the country in states such s Connecticut, Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, and Georgia. Historical milestones for the program are shown below.

Dyslexia Institutes Year 2000 Statistical Study

Prior to licensing the Jett PHORCE program, Dr. Jett performed a 6 month and 12 month study. The data behind this study were analyzed and verified by John C. Ory, Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and are summarized below.
x
Increase in Rate of Skill Growth After Entering Program 6 Months 12 Months
Phonetic Decoding 286% 229%
Reading 467% 467%
Spelling 286% 286%

To illustrate Rate of Skill Growth above: If at the end of 4th grade the reading level was at 2nd grade, the current rate of reading growth would be 1/2 grade level per year (4 years * 1/2 grade level = 2nd grade).  An increase of 467% would mean the rate of growth would increase from 1/2 grade level per year to 2.3 grade levels per year.
x

Cognitive Learning Skill Growth (Increase in Percentile Scores) 6 Months 12 Months
Blending Words (Phonological Awareness) 85% 135%
Elision (Phonological Awareness) 57% 96%
Memory for Digits (Phonological Memory) 25% 54%
Visual Working Memory 50% 57%
Auditory Working Memory 10% 18%
Visual Perception 12% 23%
Visual Motor Integration 8% 23%

     To illustrate
Increase in Percentile Scores above: If the starting percentile ranking was at the 16th percentile, an increase of 135% would  increase the percentile ranking to the 37th percentile.

Notes

  • Independent analysis and verification performed by Dr. John Ory, University of Illinois

  • Study performed on individuals specifically diagnosed with Dyslexia, not just struggling reading, below proficient readers, school classified "specific leaning disability", AD/HD, or “at-risk for a learning disability”.

  • 70 Students in 6 months figures, 33 of 70 Students in 12 month figures

  • 6 month figures represent 48 hours of therapy, 12 month figures represent 96 hours of therapy

  • During the first 6 months of DIA Therapy, at least 50% of therapy time focuses on Cognitive Learning Skill Deficits

  • Individual client results can vary significantly, some clients have only problematic cases of dyslexia, while others have moderate to severe cases of dyslexia.
